Draft — pending legal review

This is a working draft. It has not yet been reviewed by a lawyer and may change before it takes effect. Text in highlighted brackets, such as [Business legal name — to be provided], marks details we have not filled in yet, and boxes labelled “Note for legal review” are questions for our reviewer. Nothing here limits any rights you have under the law where you live.

The short version

  • You sign in with your Minecraft account using an in-game /link code. There are no passwords.
  • Follow the Server Rules, the Community Rules, and the Acceptable Use Policy.
  • We only sell Coins, an in-game currency with no real-world cash value.
  • If you are under 18, you need a parent or guardian’s permission, especially to buy anything.
  • Nothing here removes rights you have as a consumer where you live.

This summary is for convenience. If it differs from the full text below, the full text applies.

1.About these Terms

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are an agreement between you and [Business legal name — to be provided], which runs UniversalMC (“UniversalMC”, “we”, “us”, or “our”). They cover:

  • this website, including your account page and the Coin Store;
  • the UniversalMC Minecraft: Java Edition network at play.universal-mc.com, including the Hub, Prisons, and Skyblock servers;
  • the UniversalMC Discord server; and
  • any related services we provide (together, the “Services”).

These policies also form part of these Terms: the Digital Goods Purchase Terms, the Virtual Currency (Coins) Policy, the Refund Policy, the Community Rules, the Acceptable Use Policy, and the in-game Server Rules. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information.

By using the Services, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Services.

2.Who can use UniversalMC

To play on the network you need a genuine Minecraft: Java Edition account, and you must follow the Minecraft End User License Agreement (EULA) and other terms set by Mojang and Microsoft. UniversalMC is not affiliated with them; see our Minecraft Non-Affiliation Notice.

If you are under 18 (or under the age of majority where you live), you may only use the Services with the permission of a parent or legal guardian, and a parent or guardian must make or approve any purchase. Parents and guardians are responsible for the purchases their children make.

[Minimum age and approach for players under 13 (or the local age of digital consent) — to be decided]

3.Your account and signing in

The website has no passwords and no email sign-up. To sign in, you run /link in-game, which gives you a one-time 8-character code that is valid for 10 minutes. Entering that code on the website signs you in as that Minecraft account. Your website account is your Minecraft account.

  • Only link and sign in with a Minecraft account that you are allowed to use.
  • Never share a link code. Our staff will never ask you for a link code or for your Microsoft or Minecraft password.
  • You are responsible for keeping your Minecraft account and the devices you sign in on secure. A website sign-in lasts up to 30 days unless you sign out first.
  • If you think someone else has signed in as you, contact us through Support.

4.Coins and purchases

The only thing we sell is Coins, UniversalMC’s in-game virtual currency. Buying Coins is covered in detail by the Digital Goods Purchase Terms, the Virtual Currency (Coins) Policy, and the Refund Policy. In short:

  • Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.
  • Coins have no value outside the network, cannot be exchanged for money, and cannot be transferred to other players.
  • Coins are added to the Minecraft account the order was placed for, the next time that account is online.
  • Refunds are handled under the Refund Policy and the law where you live. Nothing in these Terms takes away rights you have as a consumer.

5.Rules of conduct

When you use the Services you must follow the in-game Server Rules, the Community Rules (for the website and Discord), and the Acceptable Use Policy. Discord’s own terms and community guidelines also apply on our Discord server.

6.Moderation, suspension, and ending your access

If you break these Terms or our rules, our staff may take action that fits the situation, such as removing content, a warning, a mute, a temporary or permanent ban from the network or Discord, or restricting your use of the website. You can ask us to review a decision through Support.

While your access is suspended or ended, you may not be able to use Coins or ranks on your account. You can stop using the Services at any time. To ask us to delete your information, see Privacy Rights Information.

7.Our content and your content

The website, its design and text, our logos, and our server builds and configurations belong to us or to the people who license them to us. Minecraft and its assets belong to Mojang and Microsoft. You may use the Services for your own personal, non-commercial enjoyment.

You keep any rights you have in things you create on the Services, such as builds, signs, chat messages, and support messages. You give us permission to host, store, copy, and display them as needed to run the Services. More detail is in the Copyright and IP Policy.

8.Other companies’ services

Parts of the Services depend on other companies, each with its own terms and privacy policy:

  • Mojang and Microsoft provide Minecraft and Minecraft accounts.
  • Stripe processes payments.
  • Discord runs the platform our Discord server is on.
  • Third-party server-list websites run the voting pages you can visit from our Vote page.

We are not responsible for those companies’ services, websites, or policies.

9.Changes to the Services

UniversalMC is a live game. We may change gameplay, game modes, ranks and their perks, what Coins can be used for and what things cost in Coins, Coin packages and their prices, and website features. A change to package prices does not change the number of Coins already in your balance.

If we decide to close the network permanently, we will give notice of [notice period — to be decided] on the website.

10.Disclaimers

To the extent the law allows, the Services are provided “as is” and “as available”. We cannot promise they will always be online, error-free, or that in-game data will never be lost. More detail is in our Legal Disclaimers. Some places do not allow some of these disclaimers, and they do not affect rights you have as a consumer that cannot be excluded.

11.Limits on our liability

To the extent the law allows:

  • we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for loss of profits, data, or goodwill, that arise from your use of the Services; and
  • our total liability to you for any claim relating to the Services is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose.

Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, such as liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

12.Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of [Governing law and courts — to be decided]. If you have a problem, please contact us first through Support so we can try to fix it.

If you are a consumer, you may also have the right to bring a claim in the courts where you live, and you keep the protection of any mandatory consumer laws that apply there.

13.Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. When we do, we will change the version and “last updated” date at the top of this page. If a change is significant, we will also give reasonable notice on the website before it takes effect. A purchase is governed by the Terms in effect when you made it. If you do not agree with an update, please stop using the Services.

14.General

  • If a court finds part of these Terms unenforceable, the rest stays in effect.
  • If we do not enforce a part of these Terms straight away, we can still enforce it later.
  • You may not transfer your rights under these Terms to someone else. We may transfer ours to a business that takes over UniversalMC, and that does not reduce your rights.
  • These Terms and the policies they refer to are the whole agreement between you and us about the Services.
